[IL Job] Section Director Law Practice Management

The ABA is a great (underused) resource, especially during this time when the industry is undergoing major changes.  It’s one of my favorite places to look up job listings because – 1) a lot of the job listings include the salary range; 2) it’s mostly postings directly from employers.

Now may be the best time to get involved – hired – at the ABA.  Posting included.

The Section Director provides overall management and direction to an ABA membership entity. They provide strategic direction and procedural guidance to member leaders and staff. Provides leadership for all member entity programmatic activities, including, but not limited to: committee project implementation, CLE program development, governance management, policy creation, legislative efforts, meeting planning, membership recruitment and retention efforts, member diversification, technology delivery systems, marketing efforts, non dues revenue development, publication input, and creation and maintenance of the entity budget. When needed, participates as a leader/member on ABA committees/task forces to provide leadership and guidance, serving as a resource on issues of importance to the association.

[OR Jobs]

The State of Oregon seems to be expanding its public interest sector.

For example, there are a few jobs in the Office of Public Defense Services, including an entry level attorney position.  The job listings are available on the site but here is a brief description of the services the office handles:

The Appellate Division of the Office of Public Defense Services is comprised of appellate specialists who regularly appear before the Oregon Court of Appeals and the Oregon Supreme Court, representing financially eligible individuals in criminal and parole cases. The office engages in one of the most intensive and demanding appellate practices in the state. Like their counterparts in the Solicitor General’s Office of the Oregon Department of Justice, the attorneys in the Appellate Division represent their clients with extraordinary skill and zeal in the state’s highest courts and contribute directly to the rational development of Oregon’s criminal laws and procedures. As a result, the Appellate Division is committed to recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining highly skilled appellate lawyers who will continue to develop one of the finest appellate practices in Oregon.

Perfect Timing: A Thank You Note

Welcome back from the holiday weekend.  I hope everyone was able to catch up with family, wait in line at the mall, go to a high school reunion, and/or eat turkey or a turkey equivalent.

I wanted to express my thanks to all of the websites who picked up my Am Law job listings post.  Your kindness made Thanksgiving even better this year.

Starting with Bob Ambrogi at Legal Blog Watch and including Randall Ryder at Lawyerist, Debra Cassens Weiss at the ABA Journal, Brian McDonough at Legal Pad, and Elie Mystal at Above the Law.  Thank you again for your kindness on spreading the post!
