Job Announcement: 2010-2012 Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice Clinical Fellow

This job announcement landed in my inbox.  I figured I’d post it though I’m not sure any other details.

2010-2012 Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice Clinical Fellow

Seton Hall University School of Law is seeking applications for a Clinical Fellow to work in our Center for Social Justice from July/August 2010 to July/August 2012.  The Clinical Fellow will work primarily with two professors within the Center for Social Justice:  Lori A. Nessel, Director of the Center for Social Justice and Co-Professor in the Immigrants’
Rights/International Human Rights Clinic and Jenny-Brooke Condon, Professor in the new Equal Justice Clinic.  The Immigrants’
Rights/International Human Rights Clinic focuses on a range of human rights and immigration cases including: political asylum; trafficking; Violence Against Women Act petitions; day laborer wage theft claims; petitions and amicus briefs before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Inter-American Court on Human Rights, and European Court on Human Rights; and, human rights fact-finding and reporting.  The Equal Justice Clinic handles a variety of direct service and impact litigation involving civil and human rights with a primary focus on the rights of immigrants,
women, and other historically vulnerable groups.   The Fellow will also be
responsible for assisting with the Haiti Rule of Law Project.

The Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to gain clinical teaching and public interest litigation experience in a supportive academic/law school environment, while working closely with Professors in the Immigrants’
Rights/International Human Rights and Equal Justice Clinics.  The Clinical Fellow will assist with client intake, all aspects of immigration, civil, and human rights litigation, supervision of clinical students, and the teaching of clinical seminars.  In addition, the Clinical Fellow will be responsible for the preparation of colloquia and community training manuals, networking with community and national immigration and civil rights advocacy groups, and case coverage during the summer months.

All applicants must be members of a state Bar; New Jersey bar membership is preferred but not required.  All applicants should have a strong academic record, and excellent writing and oral communication skills.
While we welcome applications from new attorneys, strong preference will be given to applicants who had a clinical experience or other public interest service during law school, a clerkship, and/or relevant post-graduate litigation experience. Annual salary is $60,000 plus benefits, including medical insurance.

Please send a resume and letter of interest by May 1, 2010 to: Daphney West, Program Coordinator, Center for Social Justice, Seton Hall University School of Law, 833 McCarter Highway, Newark, NJ 07102 or via e-mail to daphney.west@shu.edu.

Good luck!

AIIM Expo: The Overview

Today, will be my second year attending the info360 AIIM Expo and ON DEMAND Expo here in Philadelphia.  This year I also hope to spend more time at the ON DEMAND Conference and Expo, which as the press release describes is “the largest digital printing and automated production event in North America.”

The two organizations and conferences focus on different aspects of technology within an organization.  ON DEMAND focuses on all the big things in digital document production arena.  The info360: AIIM Expo reaches out to providing the information management industry with technologies and strategies to “capture, manage, share, access, and store documents and digital data.”

As someone who is more focused on content rather than the document production aspect, I will mainly be headed over to the AIIM events.   In specific, I am heading over to sessions about content creation, how to access content easily, how to share content, and also a session on e-discovery.  However, so long as my pass allows me, I plan toto wander through the ON DEMAND expo hall to see “the next big thing” in both areas.

For those of you in Philadelphia, the conference is set for today, April 20th until April 22, 2010 in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Ok, I’m back to taking notes on the opening keynote entitled, “Use the Downturn to Rethink and Thrive” by Michael Rogers, MSNBC’s “The Practical Futurist” and Technology Expert.

Once I get time to post the entire schedule, let me know if there are any specific subjects you’d like me to blog about and/or any questions you have for any of the presenters.

(Note: I will put in links later.  So check back later.)

Checking In: Making Money, Am Law 200 Jobs, & AIIM Expo

Hey Folks, I apologize about my long absence.  Things have been a little hectic in my life.

Basically, I love what I do.  I love reading about the legal industry, keeping up-to-date with blogs and social media, passing on advice about job openings and reviewing resumes and cover letters.

…but I need to start making money.  (I have law student loans to pay!)

From the feedback I’ve heard, I think that I’m offering a useful service, especially with the Am Law listings.  Therefore, I’m putting the question out to you dear readers, how can I best monetize it?  What would be a fair price?  What would I need to change to charge?  (E.g., more consistent schedule, etc.)  Or, on the other side of things, how can I best market my job board?

Once I start taking on freelance clients, it’s hard for me to also maintain my own websites.  Unless I can figure out a way to crowdsource the funding for this site so that I can continue to produce and expand the content, I think the best option for me will be to dedicate my skills to one brand’s success (brand = law firm).

Your thoughts – in comments or in an e-mail (melissa at recruiteresq dot com) – are appreciated.

The Am Law 200 Jobs

I know that I’ve mentioned this before: I *am* working on them.  I’m also trying to figure out a better way to present them on the site without using Google Docs.  I figured out how to create a table with sorting capabilities on the front-end of my site.  No more logging in, going to external sites, etc.  With all of that work, however, I haven’t completely finished updating the Am Law 200 Jobs.  But maybe later tonight I’ll publish what I have – Am Law 200 Jobs (Firms beginning with A – H).

(Note*: I’ve also decided that I’ll post the Am Law job listings twice per year for the general public.  Registered users will have access to the archives of these public listings.)

AIIM Expo

I’m going to be blogging from the AIIM Expo over the next few days.  In case you haven’t checked it out, take a look at the site.  I’ll have a post later tonight about which talks I plan to see, which talks I want to see, and how I’m kinda bummed that I missed the pre-conference certificate sessions.  I went last year and I can highly recommend the Enterprise 2.0 certificate program and Hanns Kohler-Kruner as a teacher.  You can also take a look at when this course is offered other times through out the year at AIIM’s website.

For those in the Philly area, there’s a Tweetup this week.  You should all come out!

More later….
