[NY, Chicago, DC, OR Jobs] Law Firm Associate Listings

Hey folks! Happy New Year!

As you may have heard, we have some big plans for 2010 including the launch of our new job board. The goal is to move our job listings column over there.

As we reach out to law firms about posting joining our team of Beta employers during our launch (read: beta employers get to post jobs for free during beta program and receive lifetime discounts), we’re finding a bunch of jobs. In the next few weeks, we’ll try to list three or four new positions each day. You’ll also be able to search for positions by using the search function and/or the links to the word-index at the bottom of each post.

Requirements:   Individual must have a minimum of one to three years experience for busy tort and insurance defense practice. The position will be located in our Brooklyn Heights office.  NY Bar required. The right candidate must possess excellent academic credentials, have excellent writing, research and communications skills and should expect immediate client contact and assumption of responsibilities.  Candidate must be a self-starter, detailed oriented, and a team player.

Environmental Associate, Washington, D.C.

Garvey Schubert Barer is seeking an associate attorney to join the Environmental Group in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. The ideal candidate has a minimum of two years of experience in environmental law with in-depth exposure to a diversified cross-section of federal and state environmental laws and regulations; experience in Clean Air Act, climate change and solid waste management; and CERCLA and RCRA experience. Environmental litigation experience is a plus.

Litigation Associate, Portland, OR

Position offers opportunity for challenging work in a collegial environment. The ideal candidate will have two to three years of business litigation experience and current Oregon State Bar membership. Qualified candidates will have handled a wide array of legal assignments and will have litigation experience, including conducting discovery and successful motion practice. Ideal candidates should have between 2 and 5 years of labor and employment experience in handling cases before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, will have advised clients on labor and employment law issues and will have demonstrated excellence in writing.

Immigration Legal Services Program Managing Attorney

PURPOSE: To manage the Sponsors Organized to Assist Refugees (SOAR) Immigration Legal Services program; to undertake fund development activities; to engage in program planning and development; and to provide direct immigration legal services to low income and culturally diverse people.

ACCOUNTABILITY: To the mission and goals of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon as determined by the Board of Directors, and as administered by the Executive Director and his/her delegates.

REPORTS TO: EMO Community Ministries Director.

DIRECT REPORTS: CHAP/SOAR Immigration Team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate, train and supervise CHAP (Cuban Haitian Assistance Program) and SOAR Immigration Legal Service program staff and volunteers, and implement policies and procedures for delivery of legal services.
  2. Provide direct legal services to low income immigrants with CIS administrative applications and to selected cases in immigration court on a broad range of immigration cases including: immigration visa petitions, adjustment of status, naturalization, temporary protected status, consular processing and other immigration remedies.
  3. Represent clients at CIS interviews and act as liaison between clients and CIS in resolving administrative problems.
  1. Recruit, coordinate training and provide support for volunteer attorneys.
  2. Effectively present SOAR Immigration Legal Services programs to community and give presentations on immigration issues when requested.
  3. Monitor current legislation and policy issues affecting clients and coordinate advocacy.
  4. Maintain legal library.
  5. Work with EMO development department to develop and maintain funding for legal services.
  6. Working with Community Ministries Director and other EMO management, develop long term plan for future of SOAR Immigration Legal Services programs.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
